One angry former employee shared this in a review "Management at CHS is not supportive of employees family needs. Allows harassment by posturing to be supportive but turns it around to make it appear that you are not a team player, while leaving you in an uncomfortable environment."
Provider Enrollment Analyst (Former Employee) says"They don't care about employees constantly giving you more work. Mangers were awful. So glad I left this place. Don't work here if you don't want to be stressed out Cons: Everything"
Agronomy Sales (Former Employee) says"Management at this company is absolutely appalling, they have lost over half of their sales group in 6 months but refuse to address the high turnover. There's a clear sense of good old boys club as well. The expectations and goals they set are unrealistic. When you approach management about these goals they tell you, direct quote "since we should always be striving to do better we set unattainable goals so that you're always working hard to attain them". There's some shady things going on regarding commission, they still use a paper and pen to track it and when you ask for clarification you're told to do your job. additionally, there is no room for growth or improvement, and you'll be expected to bend over backwards for a company that will replace you with no hesitation. Just look at the amount of job postings the company constantly has. Cons: poor pay, poor management, pretty much everything else."
Equipment Operator (Former Employee) says"A lot of nepotism, racism and favoritism went on and when it was addressed, nothing happened. Instead, the person that brought it to management's attention was blamed."
Grain Elevator Operator (Former Employee) says"I was injured on the job and as soon as i was cleared to go back to work i was let go the next day. Until this point i really enjoyed the job and saw my self working there for a long time."
Clerk/Cashier (Former Employee) says"if I knew then what I know now I would never refer this company to anyone as a place to work at manager and assistant manager at the store were just awful be mindful of them but I would never recommend this place to anyone looking for employment my advice steer clear of this company Cons: it sucked"
Operator/Laborer (Former Employee) says"This entire facility is an absolute train wreck. A typical work day is non stop without so much as a lunch break. You will never get off 12 hour shifts and you swing days to nights so your life is over. Prepare to work holidays, weekends, your kids graduation, your mothers funeral etc.......You work 4 on 4 off but still have weeks with zero overtime as some bean counter has figured out how to not pay you for that. Don't expect to be placed in department you applied for,as this rarely happens. Management is only concerned with lining their own pockets and keeping everything in house on a local level, So no real grievance process. The rank and file workers are top notch but thinning out quickly. It is a revolving door of new hires. The hardest part of job is punching in at start of shift. The most enjoyable part is punching out. Employee turnover is so great most dont making it through initial training. Cons: low wages, long hours, swing shift, low wages, bad management"
Fertilizer Plant person (Former Employee) says"Management sucks, all they care about is the bottom dollar. They call themselves a Farmers Coop but in the end it's just a money grubbing typical business, not giving a dam About the environment. Cons: Indoor Pollution, ignorant Mgmt"
Systems Engineer (Current Employee) says"This is not a place you want to work if you want to advance your career. Cons: Not willing to listen to new ideas"
Bagger Operator (Former Employee) says"Their motto "more, more, more!" the manager of the plant is always trying to pump out more product than the equipment can handle. Nobody there is willing to help with day to day operations unless they are the mill workers. Office people and warehouse guys are lazy."
Peon (Former Employee) says"As far as the Memphis, TN location goes I would stay very far away. Management is horrible, it's a very toxic environment where none of the workers want to be there. Lying, backstabbing, and blaming are apart of the day to day workings of this plant. Not to mention how dangerous it is, the whole plant is deteriorating, so watch where you walk. Cons: Everything else"
Hazmat Tanker Driver (Former Employee) says"I'd like to start with pointing out the seasonal work. You will be busy during harvest season, if your truck is operational! After the season there is no work. Most of my day I was busy until the truck needed to go into the shop. The trucks I had to drive were in bad shape. They needed to be put into the shop every other week. I spent alot of time at home, waiting for my truck to get repaired. I would not advise anyone to work at this company. Job advancement is a no go as well. This job would be good for a retiree or someone who just wants a "lazy man's job". Benefits are okay, I will say that. Cons: Bad dispatchers, managers and mechanics who dont care."
Mechanic (Former Employee) says"The management team did not relate to the employees if you went to college they liked that if not u were subject to lies and ridicule in front of fellow employees. ...forced to work over your required shift many times...."
Process operator (Current Employee) says"CHS Inc in Annawan nine-year-old plant ran in the ground like a fifty-year-old plant. Management claims to have great training for its employees yet you can't ask more than two people a question about how to do a task and get the same answer. Management will even go low enough to blame a new employee who hasn't finished training for equipment failures. Millions of dollars spent in a biodiesel plant that can only produce garbage while the main ethanol plant deteriorates and falls apart. Safety is third on the list after production of course and Management's ability to blame employees for equipment failures. Nobody here likes their job nor would they tell their worst enemy if we were hiring believe me when I say you'd be better off working at McDonald's Cons: Everything"
Cash Representative (Former Employee) says"I came with several years of experience. The management clearly didn't know what they were doing. Even managers left without giving notice. There isno consistent treatment of employees. It is who you know and how you are liked; not how good or faithful an emploee you are. Cons: No training, forced hours"
Processing Plant (Current Employee) says"After many years I have to say it is enough. Working with these people and watching how they treat there customers is enough to make you sick. The scale location has a group of Rude people if they bother answering the phone you'd wish they hadn't. They swear at you and tell you not to bother them and have major attitude problems. The Young Arrogant Managers at the scale and the tank wash could careless what you have to say because its only his opinion that matters and he doesn't do anything to make positive changes. He'd rather run out his good help and keep the bad ones. Time for the plant manager to wake up and see what's happening in front of his face and stop coddling them. Cons: Everything but the benefits, support, HR Dept, Management"
Warehouse Lead (Former Employee) says"The second day working, I was approached by a department head, asked to help get someone fired, when I refused, the person set out to recruit other employees to undermine my department, integrity, and reputation. After she was told the situation, the general manager refused to get involved, then blamed me. Cons: Horrible management"
Driver (Current Employee) says"Was a awesome place to work in the early 2000s but now under the new management is very poorly ran. Way to top heavy.. now the took away alot of our benefits and vacation pay. Not a good place to work. Hopefully someday it's comes around again Cons: Lot more cons than pros"
Front End Loader Operator (Former Employee) says"The supervisor now is very hard to work with! Unlike the previous supervisor, The job is very demanding pay rate was not distributed fairly! My duties consist of loading barges and loading fertilizer on trucks"
Fuel Transport Driver (Former Employee) says"was told it would be a local job it was not, dispatcher out of minnesota was great, management was clueless, never followed thru on anything, would advise not taking the job unless you do not wish to be home"
Grain/Agronomy (Former Employee) says"Never got anywhere in the company they made you promises and would never go through with it. Nothing but a bunch of liars and backstabbing, worked you like a dog and didn't give a darn about you"
Former Employee - Senior Credit Analyst says"I worked at CHS Inc full-time for more than 10 years Cons: Poor management, on a rating of 1 - 10, I would rate them as a negative 2"
Former Employee - Senior Accountant says"I worked at CHS Inc full-time for more than 5 years Cons: If you like to be micro managed this is the place for you. There is no clear direction from management and expectations change on a minute by minute basis. This used to be such a great place to work but has gone down hill in the last couple of years. The employees have tried to work with management on issues repeatedly and nothing is done. Upper management "rules' by fear and intimidation. I don't think other areas of the company are in as bad of shape as Finance is. People here are overworked and underappreciated."
Former Employee - Applications says"I worked at CHS Inc full-time for more than a year Cons: This company has done nothing but down right dirty. They lie constantly to their employees as well as customers. Make promises they can’t keep and push out honest good working employees. Unless you want to deal with constant drama, and low pay, I would save yourself the headache and stay away!"
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"I worked at CHS Inc full-time Cons: No Training, poor hours, lack of management, archaic technology"
Former Employee - Operations Supervisor says"I worked at CHS Inc full-time for more than a year Cons: Widespread lack of morals and ethics and no real focus on safety or product quality."
Former Employee - Senior Finance Analyst says"I worked at CHS Inc full-time for more than 5 years Cons: More recent hires are highly political and generally not competent. The culture is on the skids and getting worse. CFO is crazy."
Current Employee - Anonymous Employee says"I have been working at CHS Inc full-time Cons: Employees who have been with the company 15+ years are resistant to change. When you make a suggestion, they do not listen. The work/life balance is an absolute joke in which you are expected to work 50 hours a week due to the company running so lean. If you plan on working a 40 hour week, get ready for the backlash. If you plan on having a life outside of CHS, do not come here. In my opinion, the company has a bleak future with no vision on how a company should operate in 2018. My recommendation to anyone reading this is to look at another company since I will be."
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"I worked at CHS Inc full-time for more than a year Cons: Horrible leadership and a 1990’s mentality. No new perspective. Without recovering commodity prices there’s no way they could have weathered the storm because it’s “this worked before so it’ll continue to work mind set”. If you have any industry experience, you’ll walk in, and be amazed (in a bad way) at how they operate. If you read this and still move forward don’t say you weren’t warned."
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"I worked at CHS Inc full-time for more than 3 years Cons: Management does not care about all employees. More concerned about making things appear pretty than about working on business needs. All employees will backstab each other if it makes them look better. You will get blamed for things that you did not do by management so they can save face to corporate. Hostile work environment."
Former Employee - Anonymous Employee says"I worked at CHS Inc full-time Cons: lack of leadership, accountability, and focus. leadership consistently blames. Staff is definitely overworked. Leadership continually invests money into streams that do not generate revenue. (ie, building exterior, parking lots, and interior redesign). High turnover."
